Taqueria Hernandez opened on N Tennessee Street in 2008 and has run the same way ever since — family behind the counter, corn tortillas pressed fresh, and a menu built on the tacos, tortas, and plates that Mexican kitchens have served for generations, not a laminated menu designed to travel well in a delivery bag.

Regulars know the rhythm: steak and pastor tacos any day of the week, and on Saturday and Sunday mornings, a pot of menudo on the stove for the after-church crowd and anyone nursing a long Friday night. The orange salsa on every table has its own reputation in McKinney — people ask for it by name.
